MISSION , VISION and AREAS OF FOCUS

AHS PTSA Vision:

 

All AHS students will achieve at high levels and graduate fully prepared for post-secondary studies and lives as productive citizens.
AHS PTSA Mission: The AHS PTSA strives to build strong partnerships among parents, students, school personnel, local businesses, and the greater community in order to:

  • Advocate for the needs of students
  • Support school administrators and faculty in instituting excellent instructional practices
  • Create a safe, nurturing environment for our students
  • Build strong family support for the education, health, and welfare of our students
  • Encourage, recognize, and support excellence and effort

 

2010 - 2011 Areas of Focus:
  • Increase PTSA presence & involvement with student organizations
  • Use PTSA programs/events/services to fortify administration's goal of increasing student achievement in the four identified areas based on the school improvement plan
  • Increase branding presence of AHS through school pride/spirit

      Co-Presidents Purpose: To lead the PTSa
      Co-Presidents Elect Purpose: To complete special projects, stay informed of state and national PTA events & prepare for next year
      Recording Secretary Purpose: To record and distribute minutes
      Corresponding Secretary Purpose: To orient new board members and complete periodic PTSA correspondence.
      Treasurer Purpose: To manage and track PTSA budget
      Parliamentarian Purpose: To maintain order during PTSA meetings
      School Council Representative Purpose: To serve as a liaison between local School Council and PTSA
      AHS PTSA Legislative Representative Purpose: To inform parents of actions from elected officials (government and school board)
      Vice President—Finanacial Support Purpose: To lead and support committee chairs
        Corporate Sponsors Purpose: To seek sponsors who help further the aims, programs, and goals of the ptsa by providing money or in- kind donations.
      Membership Committee Purpose: To promote and process PTSA memberships
      Directory Purpose: To compile, print, and distribute student directory
      Grocery Scan Cards Purpose: To seek sponsors who help further the aims, programs, and goals of the organization by providing money or in-kind donations.
      Vice President—Communications Purpose: To facilitate communications within and outside the PTSA; to promote the organization
        ENN Purpose: To keep AHS community informed of school and PTSA events
      Web Site Purpose: To keep web site current and attractive
      Volunteer Coordinator Purpose: To promote and process PTSA memberships
      Vice President—School Services Purpose: To provide services that help the school run efficiently; to facilitate parent involvement in the school
        Attendance Office/Front Office Purpose: To Solicit, schedule, train, and monitor volunteers; to encourage parent involvement
      Textbook Coordination Purpose: TO CREATE A STRATEGY AND ORGANIZE VOLUNTEERS TO DISTRIBUTE AND RETRIEVE TEXTBOOKS AT THE BEGINNING AND END OF EVERY SEMESTER
      Media Center Purpose: To Solicit, schedule, train, and monitor volunteers; to encourage parent involvement
      College/Career Cove Purpose: To Solicit, schedule, train, and monitor volunteers; to encourage parent involvement
      Parents Assisting Teachers (P.A.T) Purpose: To Solicit, schedule, train, and monitor volunteers; to encourage parent involvement
      Vice President—Student Services Purpose: To encourage excellence in our students
        Scholarships and Awards Purpose: To recognize and reward students who achieve in a variety of areas including academics, arts, athletics, and community service.
      College and Career Cove Purpose: To prepare and monitor materials to assist students in their college selection process; to encourage parent involvement.
      Special Populations Purpose: To Support the special education programs; students, teachers and parents
      Vice President—Special Programs Purpose: To encourage excellence in our students
        Mini Grants Purpose: To provide funds to the AHS faculty and staff that encourages the development of projects and support and advance our school-based goals for improving student learning and achievement.
      Reflections Purpose: To promote and administer the Reflections program, a National PTA arts contest
      Healthy Life Choices Purpose: To promote programs that encourage commitment to healthy life choices by the use of parent, student, staff, and community involvement.
      Unity Purpose: To promote the importance of understanding and celebrating the differences and benefits of a strong, diverse school by enriching every student, teacher, administrator, parent, and community member.
      Vice President—Family Involvement PURPOSE: TO ENCOURAGE GROWTH AND INVOLVEMENT IN AREAS WHERE PARENTS CAN SUPPORT AND ENHANCE THE AHS EXPERIENCE.
        Campus Beautification Purpose: To assist the school in maintaining and enhancing the overall landscape plan for the campus
      Evening Education Purpose: to provide a casual, yet informative forum for parents to learn about issues that affect their child’s high school experience.
      Senior Events Purpose: To organize special events for seniors
      Parent to Parent Purpose: Parent to Parent is a four-week, facilitator-led, videotape-based program that empowers parents to keep their children from being immersed in today’s toxic culture of violence, aggression, vulgar language, lack of respect, drug/alcohol use, peer pressure and lack of self-respect. The distinguishing factor of this program in contrast to other parent education is the environment within which parents network, connect, and trouble-shoot with each other
      Vice President—Hospitality Purpose: PTSA and school event support
        Staff Appreciation Purpose: To let teachers and staff know that they are appreciated
      Honors Recognition Purpose: To recognize and reward students who meet high academic standards (honor roll)
      Honors Night Purpose: To enhances school-implemented Honors night by providing refreshments to honorees and their families
      Newcomers Welcome Purpose: To welcome new families to the AHS Community
